At least do it right, Big Brother.

So I bought a Timbuk2 messenger bag and now every 3rd targeted ad I see is
for Timbuk2. (I’ll leave aside the creepy factor here, that’s well covered
ground.)

Does this strike anybody else as terminally stupid? Sure, this proves I’m
the kind of person who wants an expensive messenger bag that lasts forever. It
also proves I’m the kind of person who ALREADY HAS ONE, THANKS.

It seems like an easy inefficiency to fix algorithmically, too. Just make
your machine aware that some things are durable goods which are likely to
satisfy the purchaser’s demand. Wait to flag them as good targets for that
product until enough time has passed to lose it or wear it out. Simple,
ne?
